A postseason rampage put both Alabama and the Southeastern Conference back on top in college football last season. Now, the trick will be staying there with three new coaches in the East and quarterback uncertainty across much of the league, including at `Bama. The Crimson Tide is once again the team to beat in the league, and perhaps nationally, after claiming the SECs eighth national title in 10 seasons. That broke a two-year drought for the league, which went 9-2 in the postseason counting the Tides playoff wins over Michigan State and Clemson.Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen doesnt think coach Nick Saban will let complacency set in.The biggest thing at Alabama is that if you dont have hunger, Allen said, then youre not going to start this year. Its a luxury afforded by a string of top-rated recruiting classes, even with an unproven backfield.Tennessee and Mississippi, who have the SECs most accomplished returning passers in Joshua Dobbs and Chad Kelly, are trying to continue climbing the ranks.Longtime Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is now trying to get Georgia over the hump. Will Muschamps back in the SEC East at South Carolina and Barry Odom is trying to lead a comeback to division contention at Missouri. In the West, Auburn and Texas A&M are trying to bounce back while LSU aims for a stronger finish.THE FAVORITESEast: Tennessee. Butch Jones has positioned the Volunteers, led by Dobbs, as front-runners for their first division title since 2007. They have 17 starters back from a team that went 9-4. Florida is the defending champion while three of the seven teams have new coaches. Unlike Tennessee, potential challengers Florida and Georgia entered fall camp without an established No. 1 quarterback.West: Alabama. The defending national champions, as usual, have talent all over the field. Cooper Bateman is the only quarterback with college experience, but Blake Barnett and David Cornwell were highly rated recruits. The division is typically loaded with coach Les Miles and Leonard Fournette trying to lead LSU back from late-season stumbles. Kelly helps make Mississippi -- which has beaten the Tide two straight years -- a strong threat, too.TOP PLAYERSLeonard Fournette, RB, LSU. Consensus All-American flirted with a 2,000-yard season and was a big Heisman Trophy favorite early last season. A more consistent passing game would help him out.Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M. In a league full of elite pass rushers, he may be the best. Has 24 sacks in two seasons.Cam Robinson, LT, Alabama. Started every game in his first two seasons and will be blocking for a new backfield.Chad Kelly, QB, Mississippi. Sugar Bowl MVP had third-most passing and total yards of any SEC quarterback in a season.Nick Chubb/Sony Michel, RBs, Georgia. Both are trying to return from injuries, and both have posted huge numbers when healthy.NEW FACESKirby Smart, Georgia. The standard was made crystal clear when Mark Richt was fired after winning double-digit games nine times in 15 seasons. Smart will be chasing his mentor, Saban.Trevor Knight, QB, Texas A&M. The former Oklahoma starter could be the biggest on-field addition for any SEC team. Doesnt hurt that he once led a Sugar Bowl win over Alabama.Bo Scarbrough, RB, Alabama. He and fellow sophomore Damien Harris are vying to replace Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry. Its the first time Saban hasnt had an experienced back returning.ON THE HOT SEATGus Malzahn, Auburn. Three years removed from an SEC title, hes been unable to beat the top teams since. Quarterback struggles held back his normally prolific, fast offense last season.Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M. An 11-13 record in SEC games over the past three seasons and trouble holding onto quarterbacks could at least make it lukewarm.Les Miles, LSU. Last years groundswell of support and a talented roster make him secure -- at least until the next three-game losing streak.Derek Mason, Vanderbilt. Two SEC wins in as many seasons but 16 returning starters, including RB Ralph Webb and LB Zach Cunningham.PICKSEast: Tennessee. West: Alabama. League champion: Alabama. Dusautoir, the former World Player of the Year, sustained a torn bicep playing for Toulouse in the Heineken Cup on Saturday. Jim McMahon Jersey . -- Matt Rupert scored once in regulation and again in the shootout as the London Knights extended their win streak to nine games by defeating the Owen Sound Attack 4-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action. Ryan Nall Jersey . Despite dominating possession, Schalke needed an own goal from Nicolas Hoefler for the breakthrough a minute before the interval. The Freiburg midfielder misjudged Jefferson Farfans corner and bundled the ball into his own net. Samsung Galaxy emerged victorious from its Intel Extreme Masters Gyeonggi League of Legends semifinal match against Team Liquid 2-0. The North American team seemed capable of contending against the World Championship finalist for 29 minutes, before Samsung awakened and crushed its opponent decisively.Game one was a game full of risky decisions on both sides; Samsungs were in the early game, while Team Liquids showed up later. Samsung committed numerous errors and subsequently conceded outer turrets in mid and bot; however, SSG kept up in farm and traded towers whenever possible, such as their takedown of the bottom lane tower to reciprocate TLs mid lane outer turret takedown around minute 15.In 29 of the first 32 minutes, Team Liquid (on red side) held the initiative following a jungle pathing risk from SSGs Kang Ambition Chan-young, as a failed attempt to gank Samson Lourlo Jackson early threw off his own timings. This allowed new TL signing Kim Reignover Yeu-jin to take the lead in farming and ganking with the threat of a counter-gank significantly lessened. However, Samsung Galaxy kept up in farm and won two team fights (a four-for-one trade at the 29-minute mark near Baron Nashor, and an ace at the 32-minute mark near dragon) to win the game.Game one was the only game TL truly contended in, as game two seemed like it ended as soon as it had started. The bot lane started crumbling at the three-minute mark when Park Ruler Jae-hyun and Jo CoreJJ Yong-in outdueled Chae Piglet Gwang-jin and Matthew Matt Elento before Reignover could gank the lane, resulting in a one-for-one trade and a pathing advantage for Ambition. In the end, Samsung had too much map control for Team Liquid to survive. Despite Greyson Goldenglue Gilmers roaming and duelling efforts, and despite Lourlos early-game advantage, Samsung decisively won the game in less than 23 minutes and will progress to the main event finals on Sunday.Performance highlightsTL jungler Reignovers play on RekSai was devastating in game one.dddddddddddd As soon as Ambition had failed a gank up top, he secured advantages in the mid lane with a First Blood at the 5:30 mark, snuck a Dragon at 9:40, followed it up with a gank in the bottom lane (10-minute mark) and foiled Crowns roam up top for a two-for-none trade (11th minute). He finished the game with a 4/2/7 KDA (kills/deaths/assists).SSG mid laner Crown took some time adjusting his play to best counter his opponents composition in game one (specifically Matts Zyra), but when it kicked in, he spelled doom for Team Liquid. Gone was his blunder at the 21-minute mark, when he used his ultimate (a wide area teleport) into a Zyra ult, and in came the backline killer in the final teamfight, when his flank quickly dispatched Piglet and Goldenglue at 32 minutes.Top laners Lourlo and CuVee impacted their respective teams fates as much as they possibly could. Despite his ability to fend off his opponent in the laning phase, TLs Lourlo (on Nautilus both games) was unable to match SSGs CuVees Maokai in team fights throughout the series. Lourlo held a 3.0 KDA ratio across the series, to CuVees 6.66.TL bot-lane duo Piglet and Matt were a no-show in game two. Constant summoner spell usage in risky pick attempts or chasedowns backfired when they were subsequently ambushed in return. Samsung was free to deploy wards to capitalize on this factor even further, with a devastating three-for-zero trap at the 17-minute mark as an illustration. The pair combined for a 2/11/3 KDA, whereas their counterparts Ruler and CoreJJ combined for a 9/2/20 KDA.Up NextImmortals and Kongdoo Monster play on Saturday to determine who will face Samsung Galaxy in a best-of-five contest at the IEM Gyeonggi finals on Sunday, December 18.
