Jose in numbers The impressive stats from Mourinhos career so far Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 - the year Mourinho reportedly originally wanted the job - the Reds have failed to qualify for the Champions League twice and won just one trophy - this seasons FA Cup - which proved to be Van Gaals last game in charge. Speaking to MUTV after signing his three-year-contract, Mourinho said he will give everything to restore the club to the top of world football and spoke of the affinity he has had with United supporters since he first took Porto to Old Trafford in 2004.He said: I feel great. I am honoured, I am proud, I am everything. But I am here to work and I cannot wait until July 7 to go out on the pitch. United have confirmed Mourinho has signed an initial three-year deal I think it comes in the right moment in my career because Manchester United is one of these clubs that I call a giant club. You need to be prepared for it and they need the best managers. I think I am ready. We can look at our club in two perspectives. One is the past three years, and another is the club history. I prefer to forget the past three years and focus on the history, and the giant club that I have in my hands now. Mourinho signs his contract to take over as the new United manager. I think the fans are expecting me to say that I want to win, and the players need to listen that I want to win.I think the players and supporters want to feel that I say that, but we can, really - its not just to say. Andy Burton recounts the day that saw Mourinho sign on the dotted line I think I know what the fans can give me. They know what I can give them. The most important thing is the players, and the relationship with the players and them.Mourinho has faced the Reds on 20 occasions in all competitions as an opposition manager, presiding over nine wins, nine draws and just two defeats, and he says he has always felt a connection with the clubs supporters. Former Chelsea and United chief executive Peter Kenyon believes Mourinho is the perfect replacement for Louis van Gaal He said: It is important and curious that I play so many times against them at Old Trafford, with other clubs, and there was empathy, no problems, and I was pushed sometimes to say things that my clubs were not happy with.I remember when we won at Old Trafford with Real Madrid [2012-13 Champions League last 16] and I said that the best team lost, and Real Madrid was not very happy. ESPN looks at the main talking points from a Mexican Grand Prix which exploded into life -- and controversy -- in the closing laps.?Shock: Hearing Sebastian Vettel having an absolute meltdown on the radio in the closing stages as he sat behind Max Verstappen, who he felt should have given up the position after running wide in their fight for third. Vettel eventually was promoted to third after Verstatppen incurred a five-second penalty. But most shocking was Vettels expletive-laden radio messages, especially those aimed at race director Charlie Whiting as he crossed the line. Expect the Vettel-Verstappen feud from earlier in the season to reignite in the coming days.Shocker: The stewards not looking into multiple incidents during the race. Lewis Hamilton ran wide at Turn 1 at the start, as did Nico Rosberg while holding off Nico Rosberg, something which Max Verstappen was penalised for late on. Daniel Ricciardo questioned the lack of punishment for Hamilton immediately after the race and its a valid question and another great example of inconsistency from the men dishing out the penalties. Its easy to understand why Vettel was so upset at the end.?Overtake of the race: Kimi Raikkonen rolled back the years for his pass around the outside of Nico Hulkenberg at Turn 4, which sent the Force India driver into a spin. Honourable mention for Kevin Magnussen on Jenson Button at Turn 1 and 2 early in the race.?Defend of the race: Jolyon Palmer is a man raccing for his F1 future at the moment and turned in a great bit of defensive driving on Fernando Alonso late in the race.dddddddddddd He eventually lost the battle for 13th but it showed the Englishman is going to go down fighting.Fastest lap: Daniel Ricciardos late switch to soft tyres saw him close right up on the battle for third position. A ballsy lunge down the inside of Vettel on the penultimate lap nearly ended in tears, but he ended fourth anyway following Verstappens late penalty.Driver of the Day: Hamilton turned in a comfortable win and the race was his as soon as he got into Turn 1 (grass and all) ahead. This one has to be split between a few drivers. Vettel should have earned this one for turning in a great drive from a poor grid position for third, though his radio demeanour left a lot to be desired. He later lost the position in the stewards room.?That means this award is shared: Nico Hulkenberg for a great drive to seventh, which he kept despite that late spin, having done a miraculous job to qualify fifth on Sunday. Also getting the nod is Marcus Ericsson, who lost a front wing in the carnage at the start, deserved a point for after a mammoth 69-lap stint on mediums saw him finish 11th.?EDIT: This story has been amended to reflect Vettels post-race time penalty, which dropped him from third to fifth.?
