SILVIS, Ill. -- Ryan Moore made sure he could sleep in Sunday at the John Deere Classic.Racing to finish Saturday night so he wouldnt have to get up early again to complete the third round, Moore wrapped up his third straight 6-under 65 -- and second of the day -- 22 minutes after sunset at 8:25 p.m..It was a long day, Moore said. It was a lot of golf holes I played today, so to play that solid all day long, Im very encouraged about it. I think that was 34 holes I played today. It will be nice to get to sleep a little bit tomorrow and be well-rested and just ready to get after it again tomorrow.By racing to finish, the players finally put the event back on schedule. Play was delayed 3 1/2 hours Thursday when an inch of rain fell, then the start was delayed five hours Friday after an overnight storm dumped another 2.4 inches on the soaked course.Morgan Hoffman and Ben Martin each shot 62 to pull within a stroke at 17 under. The 33-year-old Moore has four PGA Tour victories, winning the CIMB Classic in 2013 and 2014. He was third in March in the Valspar Championship and has five top-10 finishes this season. In the third round, Moore birdied the par-4 14th, hitting a 60-yard approach to a foot, and made a 6-foot birdie putt on par-3 16th. He parred the final two holes, lipping out a 26-foot birdie try on the par-4 18th with two large scoreboards and the moon providing enough light to see.It was dead center with about a foot to go, Moore said. The greens were getting a little bumpy with the amount of play on them today. We could see just fine around the green.:Hoffman had six straight birdies on Nos. 11-16 and parred the last two. Hes winless on the PGA Tour.It is really dark, and the last few greens are getting really soft and bumpy, too, so it was hard to read, Hoffman said. I guess theyre running in right now.Martin birdied the first five holes and four of the last five, chipping in for birdie on the par-4 18th. He won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in October 2014.It was one of those days where all the putts were going in, Martin said. It would have been nice to get the first five and the last five, but strong start, strong finish.Johnson Wagner was fourth at 14 under after a 67.Wesley Bryan, the leader Friday when play was suspended, was tied for fifth at 13 under after a 70. He earned a PGA Tour card last week with his third Web.com Tour victory of the year.South Koreas Whee Kim also was 13 under after a 64.NCAA champion Aaron Wise was 11 under after a 63. Making his PGA Tour debut as a pro, the former Oregon player won a PGA Tour Canada event two weeks ago in Edmonton, Alberta.Steve Stricker shot 68-68 to reach 7 under. The 49-year-old Stricker, a former University of Illinois player from Wisconsin, won the event in 2009, 2010 and 2011.This is pretty hard today. Stricker said. Its wet. Its tough to control your ball out of the fairway. If you hit it in the rough, its thick and lush. So you have to be in the fairway. But even out on the fairway, its hard to control it because the fairways are wet. Were lucky to be playing. The course took a lot of rain. Its still in great shape, but its tough.Zach Johnson shot 71-71 to remain at 6 under. The 2012 tournament winner and two-time major champion is from nearby Cedar Rapids, Iowa.Frustrating. Long. Stale. Very stale, Johnson said.Jordan Spieth chose not to defend his title because he didnt think it would be appropriate in light of his decision to skip the Rio Olympics. Steven Stamkos Jersey . JOHNS, N.BOSTON -- Alfonso Soriano walked into a pack of reporters at Fenway Park with his familiar smile, fresh off another big night at the plate. His historic four-game clip had the rest of the Yankees feeling good, too. Soriano has put up eye-popping numbers lately, providing the power his teammates were missing to help New York tighten the playoff race. In a four-game span through Friday nights win at Boston, the 37-year-old Soriano went 13 for 18 with five homers and a record-tying 18 RBIs, becoming the sixth player to drive in that many during a stretch of four games. The huge hits are even more than the Yankees hoped for when they got the good-natured Soriano in a late July trade with the Chicago Cubs, bringing him back to the organization where he began his major league career in 1999. "Its fun to watch the way hes adjusted right away," Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano said. "He was in the National League for six years and to come back to the American League and swing the bat the way he is, is unbelievable, especially right when we need him." Soriano became the first player with 18 RBIs in four games since Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa in August 2002. Before that, it was Yankees Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio in 1939. Soriano had two singles in four at-bats Saturday but was held without an RBI during a 6-1 loss to the rival Red Sox. He is 15 for 22 (.682) in his last five games with five homers and nine runs scored. The Yankees acquired Soriano to boost a struggling lineup that was riddled with injuries and looked nothing like last years team that led the majors with 245 homers. At the time of the deal, they were next-to-last in the AL with 88 home runs. With one four-game outburst, however, he had them thinking about what they could accomplish the rest of the way. The Yankees aare chasing a wild-card spot.ddddddddddddWith the Cubs, Soriano was on a team that had one of the worst records in the NL. "I was having fun," he said Saturday, sitting at his locker about two hours before the game. "But to come back to the Yankees, its more fun. Its back home and makes me feel more comfortable and happy." The season didnt start well for Soriano. He didnt get his 18th RBI until the 47th game, managing just two in 26 April games. Soriano, who has 397 career home runs, hit .254 with 17 homers and 51 RBIs for the Cubs this year. The seven-time All-Star is batting .329 with eight homers and 26 RBIs for the Yankees. In a 10-3 victory Friday night, he hit a three-run homer and drove in four. It was New Yorks fifth win in six games. "Theyre having fun with him. They probably dont want to see him come out of it, either," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Theyre laughing with him and having fun. Hes got a chance to do some damage. Thats the way the guys been his whole career -- from Day One when we saw him. Hes got a lot of power and that still hasnt changed." Missing injured sluggers Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez for most of the year, the Bronx Bombers limped through much of the season. That is, until Soriano arrived and gave them more power behind Cano. "Of course its a big difference," Cano said. "Now, the last thing the pitcher wants is to face a guy like that. Now you see better pitches. You know the guy behind you is really hot and he can do damage at any time." Soriano is just enjoying the ride as much as his teammates. "Theyre happy to see me do what Im doing," he said. And amazed at what hes done. "Its like hes playing slow-pitch softball," Rodriguez said. ' ' '
