WINNIPEG - Brett Carter was grinning ear to ear again Tuesday as he donned a Winnipeg Blue Bombers uniform for the second time in two years. The former Winnipeg Rifles receiver got to work out with the team last season and even dressed for a July game, then spent the rest of the season on the practice roster. Hes hoping to take the next step on his dream quest to make his hometown team.Im coming in here and Im going to fight for a spot, he said Tuesday as Day 3 of main training camp ended but his just started.Im going to be competing against a lot of these guys and there are a lot of really good players so Ive got to step my level up a lot and just be determined to do the best that I can do.Hes just 21 but was a CJFL All-Canadian and took home MVP honours with the Rifles, on top of being named a Prairie Football Conference All-Star.Last season, it was more of a teaching move to invite the young player to camp. The Bombers also invited a few Rifles players and a University of Manitoba Bisons quarterback to camp this year to work out with the team. But when July rolled around last season, injuries forced the Bombers to look for a Canadian to dress and Carter got the call. Coach Mike OShea said injuries in camp were also the reason Carter got a call this season as the Bombers look to bolster their Canadian talent. When youre faced with a certain number of injuries and youre looking at whos on your list of guys to bring back, he was here before, he understands what were trying to do here, hes local, hes good, said the coach.Carter impressed the coaches last season with his work ethic and ability. He also worked out with a team trainer in the off-season.Winnipeg-born Taylor Renaud, who played for Acadia, is also getting another look at Bombers camp as a receiver this season. The Bombers traded away two Canadian receivers in the off-season to acquire starting quarterback Drew Willy and defensive back Korey Banks.Willy, who was a backup in Regina, said after Tuesdays practice that hes starting to get more of a feel for the receivers hell be working with this season. One is former B.C. Lions receiver Nick Moore, who was signed as a free agent in the off-season. Willy has known Moore for years, going back to when they were both trying to land jobs in the NFL.I like what Im seeing, Ive thrown with Nick before, said Willy.Guys like (Clarence) Denmark and Rory (Kohlert), these guys are good players as well so its fun to be around talented guys like this. Ive thrown a bunch of balls to Aaron Kelly and weve made a lot of big plays with him. Im just trying to put together things with each guy, get a feel for how they run each route. The CFL labour dispute continues to hang over the camp and the Bombers and the Toronto Argonauts could be the first to feel the impact. They are scheduled to open the exhibition season Monday and the regular season on June 26, also in Winnipeg. The teams player rep, veteran offensive lineman Glenn January, suggested the players arent rushing to take any action. The conversations Ive had have been strictly limited to what we can do to get the CFL to see our point of view, he said. The Winnipeg exhibition game comes before the two Alberta teams could legally strike. January said he knows that. Our strike laws are different than Alberta and I do know that we have a strike vote in hand which is my understanding can be exercised at any point in time. But he also suggested the exhibition game wasnt necessarily in jeopardy, unless the players were forced to vote on the leagues contract offer. If it was rejected, he said it would deprive players in some provinces of any protection under the collective agreement. The two sides in the CFL labour dispute havent held formal meetings since Thursday and no new talks are scheduled. Abel Aguilar Jersey . The stakes were higher, the competition more fierce and the atmosphere was that of a playoff game - something the young, upstart Raptors have five weeks to better prepare themselves for or the result will be eerily similar. Camilo Vargas Jersey . Setting United on its way to a 2-0 victory, Rooney sent the ball high from inside the halfway line over goalkeeper Adrian after just seven minutes. "Its just instinct, Ive turned and had a quick look and seen the goalkeeper off his line," Rooney said. http://www.nationalcolombiafootball.com/...olombia-jersey/. Pace had a career-high 10 sacks for Rex Ryans defence-- second only to Muhammad Wilkersons 10 1/2 -- in his sixth season with the Jets. The 33-year-old outside linebacker was an unrestricted free agent. James Rodriguez Colombia Jersey . Wheeler scored at 4:58 of overtime, with Scheifele getting an assist, and the Jets beat the slumping Colorado Avalanche 2-1 on Sunday night. Oscar Murillo Jersey . Toronto ended an 0-4-0 skid with Sundays shootout win over visiting New Jersey, but the club could have a difficult time making it two victories in a row tonight. The Maple Leafs have dropped three straight and 11 of the last 12 regular- season meetings against Boston overall and the Bruins have claimed six straight in Beantown.PITTSBURGH -- The steady stream of bold-faced names heading to injured reserve shows no signs of abating for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Thankfully for the Penguins, neither is Sidney Crosby. Crosbys 19th goal of the season broke a tie with just over 6 minutes remaining and Pittsburgh edged the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 on Monday night for their fourth straight victory. Chris Conner and Brandon Sutter also scored for the Penguins, who were playing without a number of regulars, including forward Evgeni Malkin. "We keep finding ways," Crosby said. "A lot has to do with the way the (new guys) are playing." Pittsburgh took the ice with a handful of players who have spent the majority of the season at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League and only one defenceman -- Matt Niskanen -- with more than one year of NHL experience. It hardly mattered on a night the Penguins kept the speedy Maple Leafs in check. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 25 shots for Pittsburgh to improve to 27-3 in his past 30 home starts. Pittsburgh has won four straight and nine of 10. "Its a pretty unique situation," Niskanen said. "One rookie and five young guys playing. ... These guys have been coming up and playing with confidence and doing a good job. Thats exciting for the organization." Morgan Rielly scored the first goal of his career for the Maple Leafs. Jonathan Bernier made 28 saves, but couldnt stop Toronto from losing for the fourth time in its past five games. "We just werent sharp," Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said. The Penguins have a firm grip on the top of the Metropolitan Division despite a series of injuries to high-profile players. Kris Letang joined fellow defenceman Brooks Orpik (concussion), Paul Martin (broken leg) and Rob Scuderi (broken ankle) on the IR Monday with an upper-body injury of his own, forcing coach Dan Bylsma to get creative with his pairings. Rookie Philip Samuelsson, whose father Ulf won a pair of Stanley Cups with the Penguins in the early 1990s, made his NHL debut against the Maple Leafs. The younger Samuelsson received a quick lesson from his teammates on the level of expectation from Brian Dumoulin, playing in just the second game of his career. Dumoulin helped give the Penguins a quick 1-0 lead, collectiing the puck near the point then firing it on net, allowing Conner to jab it by Bernier for his third goal of the season 39 seconds into the game.dddddddddddd The tally seemed to embolden Pittsburgh, which controlled play for long stretches in the first period, keeping Bernier busy while the defence did a fine job of neutralizing Torontos speedy counterattack. The Maple Leafs tied it 6:03 into the second as Rielly, the fifth overall pick in the 2012 draft, skated through the Pittsburgh zone and beat Fleury over the goaltenders right shoulder for the highly regarded defencemans first career goal. The power-play score ended the Penguins streak of 18 consecutive penalty kills, though the score had less to do with any kind of breakdown and more to do with Riellys wicked wrist shot. Toronto kept the pressure on well into the third period, but Pittsburgh regained control after killing off an illegal check to the head penalty on Robert Bortuzzo, who levelled Maple Leaf forward Jerry DAmigo during a collision near centre ice. The 6-foot-4 defenceman, who has struggled to crack the lineup, shook off the penalty and even picked up his first point of the season on Crosbys winner. The Maple Leafs won the draw deep in their zone but Bortuzzo knocked down the clearing attempt then fed the puck up the wall to Pascal Dupuis, who slipped a quick pass to Crosby between the circles. "There was a lot of room there," Crosby said. "(Dupuis) made a great pass on my tape and I found the back of the net. Sutters short-handed empty-net goal with 3 seconds left sealed it and the Penguins remained hot while the Maple Leafs couldnt back up a promising 7-3 romp over defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago on Saturday night. "We were a little inconsistent, but we did do some good things," Torontos Dion Phaneuf said. "Weve got to capitalize on the power play and do some things better." NOTES: Toronto finished 1 of 5 on the power play. ... The Penguins are 13-1 when leading after the first period. ... Pittsburgh has won eight straight games at Consol Energy Center. ... The Maple Leafs begin a three-game homestand on Tuesday against Florida. ... Pittsburgh forward Jason Megna left with a lower body injury and did not return. He is not expected to play Wednesday when the Penguins face the Rangers in New York. ' ' '
