The BBLs oldest player, spinner Brad Hogg, has joined the Melbourne Renegades for the 2016-17 season. Hogg, 45, has spent the past five seasons as something of a cult figure with the Perth Scorchers and is their all-time leading BBL wicket taker, and second on the wicket tally for all teams since the tournament began in 2011-12.However, Hogg has decided against remaining in his home state, much to the disappointment of Scorchers coach Justin Langer. I have been a very fortunate man in every respect and had five great seasons with the Scorchers, Hogg said on Monday. It was simply time for me to move on.I had been rejecting other BBL offers for years, but this year I realised the end is coming closer - hopefully its still a few years away yet - but I know this is the time to grab those opportunities and experience everything I possibly can. The competition between the two Melbourne teams is a fierce rivalry and I want to be a part of that intensity over the BBL season.Melbourne is the sporting hub of the country so I see it as a great honour to play there. Its also a great team, and the fever pitch of a two-team rivalry, within the competition will be brilliant. Coming from Perth, the only time we get a taste of that is in AFL with the Dockers and Eagles. Its electrifying. The Renegades and Stars games will offer an intense rivalry within the competition itself. It adds an element to the game that I havent experienced. The Renegades can win this league and I cannot wait to get out there and feel the roar of that competition.Hogg played in successful back-to-back BBL campaigns with the Scorchers in 2013-14 and 2014-15, and became Australias oldest T20 international player at the age of 43. This year, at 45, he became the oldest man ever to play in the IPL.Its just amazing when you consider that Brads still fit, got the fire and more to the point in-demand around the world, Renegades coach David Saker said. I dont think there are many recent summers where we havent stood there and applauded his BBL performancesHis experience goes without saying. Hell be great for the guys in the group to learn from and you cant teach the energy and enthusiasm he brings to the club. He loves the battle on the field and we cant wait to see his competitive side come out in red. Carlos Zambrano Cubs Jersey .Y. -- Knicks coach Mike Woodson said Wednesday that J. SEATTLE -- The red-hot Detroit Tigers finally cooled off Sunday, but they still come rolling into a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners with chests pushed forward.Detroit (61-50) has won 10 of 12 games and each of its past four series heading into Seattle.During the 10-2 run, the Tigers have won six one-run games. They have stormed to within two games of American League Central leader Cleveland and back into the thick of the AL wild-card race. Were playing really good baseball and guys know what were capable of doing, Justin Upton told the Detroit Free Press after Sundays 3-1 loss to the New York Mets. We just gotta continue to do that.Mondays game will feature a pitching rematch of the June 22 game that the Tigers won 5-1 at Comerica Park. Detroits Michael Fulmer had a rough fifth inning in that game, leading to an early exit, and Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma took the loss. Both Fulmer and Iwakuma are scheduled to be back on the mound Monday at Safeco Field.Fulmer (9-2) has been a rock on the Tigers staff this season. He had one four-start streak of starts without allowing a run.Iwakuma (12-7) hasnt been nearly as dominant but has also had a pretty good stretch of success. He is 11-3 with a 3.77 ERA in his past 14 starts and is coming off one of his best starts of the season.Iwakuma, a 35-year-old right-hander who signed with the Dodgers in the offseason but failed the team physical, has surprisingly been one oof the few constants in the Mariners rotation this season.dddddddddddd Seattle has already used 11 starting pitchers, and the Mariners took another hit Sunday when emerging left-hander James Paxton took a liner off his left elbow. X-rays showed that he suffered nothing more than a bruise, but Paxtons next start could be in jeopardy. Were starting to see him emerge before our eyes, Seattle manager Scott Servais said. Thats why Im really, really hoping that hes OK.The Mariners (57-53) have been on a pretty good run of their own lately. Theyre coming off a three-game sweep of the Angels and have moved into second place in the American League West, seven games behind Texas. Once left for dead in the postseason race, Seattle has managed to pull within 3 1/2 games of a wild-card spot. The Mariners have won five of six games and could make an even bigger push as theyre staring at a stretch of 18 consecutive games against non-contenders after the Detroit series. But first theyll have to get through a Tigers team thats playing its best baseball of the season. Detroit is hitting .288 as a team through the first week of August, second only to Minnesota among AL teams. All three games in the series will be played at night. It will wrap up a 10-game homestand for the Mariners, who travel to Oakland next weekend. ' ' '
