Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Terry Larrier scored 15 points to lead 14th-ranked VCU in its 12th consecutive win, a 72-48 throttling of George Washington in a key Atlantic 10 clash. This matchup between two of the conferences top three teams was no contest after the Rams held the Colonials to a woeful 5-of-26 shooting performance in the second half and embarked on a 20-5 run during the period. George Washington finished just 26.9 percent from the field overall. I think its the best one weve had in awhile, Rams head coach Shaka Smart said afterward. It was a completely different energy than we had in our last game against Saint Louis (a last-second win). Our guys did a good job of bringing enthusiasm to the defensive end. JeQuan Lewis added 13 points and three steals for VCU (17-3, 7-0 A-10), which hasnt lost since a 74-57 home setback to still-unbeaten Virginia on Dec. 6. Mo Alie-Cox contributed 10 points and eight rebounds to the rout. Kethan Savage paced George Washington (16-5, 6-2) with 18 points and Joe McDonald had 11 in the defeat, just the Colonials second in their last 10 outings. The Rams first big surge of the night came late in the first half, with their persistent pressure defense fueling a 12-2 spurt to close out the period. After struggling to hit shots early on and trailing 19-17 with seven minutes to go in the stanza, VCU induced turnovers on four straight George Washington possessions to ignite the flurry. Larrier had seven points during the run, including a layup and free throw that put the Rams up 25-21 with 2:41 left in the half. Larrier killed us, said Colonials head coach Mike Lonergan. Their depth really hurts us. Alie-Cox followed Larriers 3-point play with a close-range bucket and two foul shots that sent the Rams into the break with an eight-point advantage despite shooting just 33.3 percent for the frame. The Colonials were able to get the deficit down to four early in the second half, but the Rams again turned up their defensive intensity to mount a game- breaking tear. GW missed 10 consecutive field goal attempts during a 16-2 sequence capped by Alie-Coxs run-out slam off a Colonials giveaway and Melvin Johnsons transition layup that lengthened VCUs lead to 47-29 with 12 minutes remaining. Savage finally ended George Washingtons drought with a 3-point play, but layups by Johnson and Lewis had the Rams up comfortably at 51-32 with 9:53 to play. The Colonials never threatened thereafter, with the margin reaching 29 points when a basket by the Rams Justin Tillman made the score 70-41 entering the final two minutes. Game Notes VCU improved to 7-0 in conference play for just the second time in its history, matching the 2006-07 squad that won its first seven tests in the Colonial Athletic Association ... George Washington made just 1-of-17 tries from 3-point range ... The Colonials have lost all three all-time meetings with the Rams in Richmond by a combined 68 points ... The win was the Rams 16th straight at home in A-10 games. Cheap CJ Wilson Jersey . Kevin Love looks like a man thats wondering what he got himself into.BOSTON - The Toronto Blue Jays, the presumptive favourites to win the American League East when the 2013 season began, instead watched the Red Sox celebrate as division champions on Friday night. Ace left-hander Jon Lester paced the Red Sox to a 6-3 win over Toronto with seven innings of one run ball. He improved to 15-8. Koji Uehara, the first reliable closer in Boston since Jonathan Papelbon left for Philadelphia two years ago, notched his 20th save. BLUE JAYS WATCH RED SOX CELEBRATE Prior to the game, Mark DeRosa told TSN.ca if the Red Sox clinched against the Blue Jays this weekend, he hoped Toronto players would watch the celebration and be energized by the scene, wanting to experience a similar feeling next year. Here is some post-game reaction: "These guys know whats at stake," manager John Gibbons said of his ballclub. "They know where were trying to go. Theyve got a great team over there, they really do. They ran away with a good division. Its not even close right now so that speaks volumes of how good they are. Tonights a perfect example, good pitching, good defence and a lot of hitting. I mean, thats a good recipe." "Its really frustrating because weve got the talent to be like that," said starter Esmil Rogers, who didnt get out of the third inning and fell to 5-8 on the year. "Weve got so many opportunities to do that and we didnt make it so I think God made a decision to give the opportunity to this team to make it. I hope that God gives the opportunity to us for next year so we can be cellebrating like that, too.dddddddddddd." "I mean thats what you play for," said DeRosa, who played on the great Braves teams of the late 1990s and early 2000s and won a World Series with the Giants in 2010. "I know you go through different phases in your career, wanting to establish yourself and then provide for your family but at the same time thats what its about. Hopefully it triggers something and guys are ready to roll. I mean, theyre a perfect example of a team that loves playing together and finding a way to win. They dont kill you with a bunch of names. Big Papi is one of the best hitters in the game. I mean, they just have a really good team top to bottom and they play together." RASMUS INJURED As of the publishing of this piece, centre fielder Colby Rasmus was in a Boston hospital undergoing a CT scan on his face. Rasmus was injured while taking his position before the bottom of the first inning. Anthony Gose, playing right field, made a warm-up throw in Rasmus direction. Rasmus wasnt looking and the ball hit him near the left eye. Gose was shaken after the game. "I threw the ball and I hit him in the face," said Gose. "I thought he was looking at me and I just tried to throw it to him and I hit him right in the face." Rasmus injury forced a complete restructuring of the outfield. Anthony Gose, who was to play in right field, moved to centre field. Rajai Davis shifted from left field to right. Kevin Pillar entered the game in Rasmus lineup spot and played left field.
