Trevor Bayliss believes Ben Stokes could develop into one of the all-time best allrounders following his Man-of-the-Match performance in Chittagong.Bayliss, the England coach, made the comments after Stokes helped seal victory with 103 runs and six wickets in the match. Bayliss was particularly impressed with Stokes improvement against spin bowling on the sort of low, slow pitches on which he has struggled in the past.Coming to the crease in the second innings with England precariously placed on 46 for 4, Stokes compiled 85 in just over three hours with his trademark power complemented by some tight defence and mature rotation of the strike. He also gained reverse swing and generated impressive pace on a sluggish surface. He could be right up there with some of the all-time best allrounders, Bayliss said. Hes young into his career and thats going to be easier to judge the longer he goes. Only time will tell. But the strides hes made on the subcontinent playing spin have been top class. It wasnt all that long ago we were wondering how he might go on spin-friendly wickets, but hes a guy that works extremely hard in the nets. Its his defence to spin that has improved out of sight. We know that if he gets a bad ball he can hit anything over the fence, but youve got to be there to get that loose ball. In the past he probably hasnt had a lot of footwork, has played from the crease and backed his eye and his hands. But as weve seen on this tour, in the one-dayers and this Test, hes defended really well off the front foot, got right out and smothered the ball before it had a chance to spin and jump past the outside edge.It is not the first time Stokes has won high praise from an international coach. During Englands tour of the Caribbean in 2015, the then West Indies coach, Phil Simmons, remarked that Stokes was in the mould of Jacques Kallis and wished I had him at No. 6.... Thats the kind of cricketer you need. There will be those who scoff at such comments. They will point out that Bangladesh are rated the ninth-best team in the ICCs rankings and suggest that conclusions over Stokes worth be postponed until he has achieved success more consistently and against higher-ranked sides. But a reflection on some of the great allrounders best performances in Asia over the last half-century (see sidebar) underlines the impression that Stokes performance in Chittagong is worthy of some respect. Perhaps the next few weeks in India will define Stokes reputation in such conditions. There may also be an element of psychology in Bayliss comments; hearing such praise from his coach can do Stokes confidence no harm. But there can be little arguing with the allrounders value to the team. So much so that, while England are considering rotating other players, Bayliss feels it is likely that Stokes will, fitness permitting, play all seven Tests before Christmas. Moeen Ali is viewed similarly by the management.Stokes is very important, Bayliss said. He allows us to play that extra spinner and the third pace bowler. Mo batting at No. 5 plays a similar role to us, especially here in the subcontinent, and the way he played in the first innings, he is suited to playing spin bowling. We dont want to get halfway through the India series and have one or two guys injured and definitely out. And we also want to give those guys who will probably play at some stage some game time. But it would be a brave man to bet against Stokes playing all seven Tests. Im not sure wed be game enough to drop him anyway; we might get a thump in the head. Hes a very resilient person, let alone cricketer, and he just keeps on keeping on. Weve just got to watch what he does between the Tests to make sure he is available for all the matches. While other players might be equally reluctant to miss a Test - you would expect no less from a professional cricketer, Bayliss said - it does seem England are committed to changes ahead of the second Test in Dhaka. Steven Finn, who has impressed with his rhythm and pace in training, could well come in for Stuart Broad or perhaps Chris Woakes, and Zafar Ansari may come in for Gareth Batty or perhaps Adil Rashid.England are keen to reiterate no-one is being dropped - Broad bowled an especially impressive spell towards the end of the first Test, including nine consecutive overs at the end of the fourth day - but may feel that Rashid, who was not at his best in Chittagong, would benefit from another bowl ahead of the India series.Ultimately, the decision over who plays in Dhaka may come down to the England managements view of the pitch: if it looks like it will turn sharply, Rashid may be left out on the basis that the other bowlers will gain enough purchase. But if it looks flat, he will play as he can gain turn on surfaces they cannot. Bayliss, like Cook, is reluctant to field a fourth spinner and is not considering changing the batsmen. Its a bit like playing five pace bowlers on a green seamer, he reasoned. If three or four cant do the job... Remember, weve got Joe Root who can bowl decent spinners as well.I dont think theres any reason to change the top six at this stage. The top four guys found it very difficult against the new ball facing the spinners. That was very difficult facing good spin bowlers on a wicket which sometimes bounced up around your shoulder and sometimes skidded straight through. Im sure all the batters will be better for it. ATLANTA -- Commissioner Tim Finchem leaned on charity as a reason why he has no plans to relocate PGA Tour events from North Carolina over HB2, the so-called bathroom bill that limits protects for LGBT people. The NBA pulled the All-Star Game from Charlotte, while the NCAA said it would not hold the first and second rounds of the mens basketball tournament in North Carolina and the ACC relocated all its championships from the state. The Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte has been around since 2003, while the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro dates to 1938.Finchem said Tuesday that the PGA Tour supports the NBA, NCAA and ACC over its public stand against the legislation. We are not, however, inclined to join that group by pulling our tournament, he said. And the reason for that is quite simply, that tournament raises about $1.5 million right now for the Teach for America program in the inner city of Charlotte. Nobody else is going to put that money up.Finchem said the three pieces of the PGA Tour mission is to benefit the professional game and the players; building the communities where they play and helping to grow the game of golf.Well be vocal about the legislation, he said. But were not going to interrupt a unique program thats doing the great work its doing in the city of Charlotte. The Wells Fargo Championship will be played next year in Wilmington because Quail Hollow is being used for the PGA Championship.---WORST CASE SCENARIO: Jim Furyk and Paul Casey share a peculiar distinction in the FedEx Cup. They are the only players to twice be a Top 5 seed going into the Tour Championship without having won that year.Casey was the No. 5 seed in 2010 on the strength of his runner-up finish at the BMW Championship. He earned the No. 5 seed this time with successive runner-up finishes in the Deutsche Bank Championship and the BMW Championship. It means the PGA Tour can only hope for the one scenario that would put a serious dent in the credibility of the FedEx Cup. Casey has a mathematical chance -- and the way hes been playing, its not a stretch -- to win the $10 million bonus without winning on the PGA Tour. For that to happen, he would have to be runner-up and hope that none of the players ahead of him -- Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Adam Scott and Jason Day -- plays well. Johnson as the top seed, for example, would have to finish fifth or worse.Casey tied for fourth in 2010, when Jim Furyk won the Tour Championship to capture the cup.Furyk was the No. 3 seed going into the 2009 Tour Championship and had an even better chance to win the FedEx Cup without any other trophy that year. He tied for seventh. Furyk also was the No. 4 seed in 2008, but the points system was different that year and no one had a chance of beating Vijay Singh.Odds are still against Casey. In the previous nine years, only two players have won the Tour Championship without winning the $10 million bonus -- Phil Mickelson in 2009 and Camilo Villegas in 2008.---HOLIDAY BONUS: Russell Knox headed to South Africa at the end of last year to play the Nedbank Challenge. He probably wont have to go as far this year, even with Nedbank moving up a month into the European Tour schedule. The Tour Championship is the final event before the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas goes to the world ranking to fill its 18-man field. Knox is at No. 19 and is certain to get in because of the number of players whoo wont be there, such as Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia.ddddddddddddScott lives at Albany in the Bahamas, but hell be Down Under for the Australian Open, World Cup and Australian PGA Championship.A year ago, the field went into the mid-20s in the world ranking. Among those in need of a good week at East Lake if they want to play -- last place pays $100,000 -- are Emiliano Grillo, Kevin Kisner and Justin Thomas. The tournament is allowed two exemptions, provided they are among the top 50 in the world. There also is a provision for an exemption to go to the tournament host -- Tiger Woods.---KOEPKA POWER: Brooks Koepka, the only rookie (so far) on the U.S. Ryder Cup team, says he is most looking forward to being part of a team. He doesnt count his college days at Florida State because that was essentially individual players adding up their scores.Hed have to go back to his days playing baseball, which Koepka described as his passion. He gave up baseball for golf, and the reason was mildly surprising.I couldnt hit for power, believe it or not, said Koepka, in the top tier of big hitters on the PGA Tour. I was a decent pitcher, a good shortstop, I just didnt have a bat. I couldnt hit the ball out of the park. And if you cant hit ... oh, well.It worked out well for him in the end.---MAJOR AWARD: Lydia Ko has won the Rolex Annika Major Award, which is based on points earned at the LPGA Tour major championships. Players must win a major, and then have the most points from finishing in the top 10.The 19-year-old from New Zealand joins Michelle Wie (2014) and Inbee Park (2015) as winners of the award.Ko won the ANA Inspiration, the first major of the year when Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand faded over the closing holes at Mission Hills. That proved to be the difference, as Ko wound up winning the award by six points.Jutanugarn won the Womens British Open. While the race was close, there was little movement in the final major at the Evian Championship.
